Nature has been extremely generous with Rio de Janeiro. Its natural landscapes, such as massifs, bays, lakes, rivers and hills, merge perfectly with its vibrant metropolis, creating views of incomparable beauty. Along its coastline, which is about 250 km long, there are more than 100 islands. One of the most famous islands is the archipelago of Ilhas Cagarras, which can be seen from Ipanema beach. Its curious name is due to the large amount of excrement of seabirds that live there.
