The Caño Cristales River, located in central Colombia, stands out for its vibrant colors, attributed to a unique aquatic plant. With a palette that includes red, yellow, black and blue, the river runs through the Serra da Macarena National Natural Park. After years of armed conflicts that kept the site closed, the park reopened just four years ago, aspiring to become an important ecotourism destination in Colombia. The park's history dates back to the middle of the last century, when peasants settled in the area after being expelled from their land, triggering decades of conflict between government forces, paramilitaries and drug traffickers.
