Cannoli is an Italian tube-shaped dessert consisting of a pastry filled with sweet ricotta, candied fruit or chocolate drops, originating in Caltanissetta or nearby regions, between the years 827 and 1091. There are two stories about its origin: one related to the harem of an Arab prince, where concubines sought to exalt the emir's masculinity, and another linked to a convent outside the castle, where nuns prepared the dough to celebrate Carnevale before Lent.
