On January 30, 1910

On January 30, 1910, a group got together to found the Coritiba Foot-Ball Club. At the time of drawing up the minutes, however, the member João Viana Seiler suggested considering the date of October 12, 1909 as the foundation of the club. On that occasion, they received an invitation from a group from Ponta Grossa, in the interior of the State, to hold the first football game in Paraná – scheduled for the 23rd of October. In a new meeting, on April 21, 1910, it was decided to change the name from Coritibano to Coritiba.

The first Paranaense Championship was played only in 1915 and the following year, in the 1916 Paranaense, Coritiba lifted its first trophy, by beating Britânia, in a final disputed in January 1917. The competition was still a doubt in relation to his credibility and any football game was a cause for joy and celebration. In the years 1917, 1920 and 1921, Coxa won the Torneio Inicial, a competition that had games with reduced time and a field with smaller dimensions.

Vovô Coxa, Coritiba's mascot, was inspired by a real character from the team's history. The German photographer Max Kopf lived a block away from the field of alviverde in Curitiba and used to follow the team's games since its foundation. When he died, in September 1956, the club held a drawing contest to choose the best representation of the mascot: an old man with a pipe.



The current Major Antônio Couto Pereira Stadium

The current Major Antônio Couto Pereira Stadium was built around the Belfort Duarte Stadium, opened on November 20, 1932, in the Alto da Glória neighborhood. In the 1950s, the then president of the team, Aryon Cornelsen, decided to make the Sports Cake, a lottery model that had already been used to raise funds for the construction of Maracanã, in Rio de Janeiro. The new stadium was inaugurated on October 12, 1958. Today the space has a capacity for an audience of 40,500 people.

An Atlético Paranaense fan started calling the player Breyer, from Coritiba, a very German type, a white thigh. The joke took shape and, little by little, Coritiba players and fans began to receive the same nickname. Over time, the pejorative term fell to the taste of fans. So much so that, in the late 1960s, coxa became the rallying cry of the alviverde fans.

Coritiba has been undefeated champion of Paraná twice. In 1935, they had six wins and one draw, scored 19 goals and conceded 11. In 2003, they played 13 games, won 9, drew 4, scored 31 and conceded 11. It is the first club in the State of Paraná to compete in the Libertadores. This achievement was achieved in 1985 as Brazilian champion. In 1988 Coritiba began negotiations with Pinheiros for a merger. The club would be called Paraná and would be green and blue. Historical white-thighs prevented the madness.

1931 is a separate chapter in Alviverde's history, especially the decision against Palestra Italia, favorites for that year's title. In the penalty shootout, alviverde won by 6×5, making the joy of 10 thousand white thighs in Maraca.
